The GRIMELIGHT mixtape is a collaborative effort of Lowup Records’ DJ Mellow and graphic designer Tim Colmant. While working together on Lowup’s latest cover and poster designs they discovered a shared fascination for the new wave of grime producers that are currently remodeling this historically dark and somewhat aggressive offshoot of UK garage.

Up and coming guys like Morcee, Erra, Dark0, Strict Face, JT The Goon, Mr Mitch, Major Grave, Grobbie and Murlo tend to drop the tempo a notch and propose a lighter, looser template for the genre, one with more space, more harmony and more melody. This more sensual approach has brought about a new dynamic wherein tunes can easily cross over to the level playing field of current, global bass music, reinstating grime as a relevant sound for the clubs.
