Following Max Le Daron’s « Sunshanked EP », Lowup Records’ seventh release is a further exploration of the afro/bass faultline. Brussels bass music don DJ Mellow delivers a slab of gloomy, synth laden dancehall with a couple of sharp hooks alongside a bubbly afro house roller with a vocal contribution from one of Ghana’s leading DJ/MC’s, Steloo. Both tracks share a sense of syncopated propulsion and combine bass melodies and cut up voices in a similar way. In line with his earlier forays into moombahton and soca, DJ Mellow can seemingly tackle any style of bass music and make it his own.
